Designing for a brand like Ada, the National College for Digital Skills, means more than just making things look good; it means making high-level tech feel accessible, inclusive, and human. During my time at Ada, I sat at the intersection of design, video, and marketing, tasked with a singular mission: to tell the stories of the people behind the code. From the high-energy atmosphere of live industry events to the quiet focus of a student testimonial, my role was to capture the 'Ada spirit' and translate it into a visual language that drove both student and business recruitment.
I filmed and edited a video to summarise the college to prospective sixth form students in a minute
Targeting prospective sixth form students meant working closely with the outreach teams who were regularly attending schools. I was tasked to create a one-minute video to summarise everything that Ada does as a sixth form to ‘sell’ it to students during presentations. This involved filming and editing videos to create a compelling fast-paced video.
Alongside this, they would attend/host events that required lots of printed merchandise, which I designed from scratch in programmes such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. These hosted events would sometimes require out of home campaigns to promote them to the target audience using specific bus routes.
The other side of the college involved apprenticeship and business development side of things. This meant I had to adopt a B2B marketing approach where I would capture testimonials of current employers we work with and use these to encourage other companies to contact us to get involved.
A video posted to LinkedIn to promote Ada’s partnership with Royal London to encourage more B2B engagement.
Alongside this work, I spent time as a photographer during events at Ada to capture professional photos to be used across our website and posted on our LinkedIn to be shared with partners and people we had worked with.
My work at Ada was extremely varied and helped me to develop my graphic skills alongside gaining new skills such as videography and photography.
